Kim Leheny was born in Pittsburgh Pa, and began dance at age 5, at a studio called Doris Singer Dance Studio. By the age of 7, she knew without a doubt she wanted to be a dancer. At age 11, her dance teacher Janet Amoroso, noticed her passion and began training her in Cecchetti ballet, each summer Kim was tested by the Cecchetti board, both written and physically and eventually passed 6 levels by graduation, at the same time she was part of an acrobatic trio that won state titles as well a spot to audition on StarSearch(they blew the audition). During high school, Kim went half day school, then took a bus into Pittsburgh, and studied at Point Park College, during the evenings.(No extra curricular activities besides dance, huge sacifice, but worth it) After graduation, she was accepted to Point Park College on a full dance scholarship, where she majored in jazz (Point Park is one of the only schools with a jazz degree as well as ballet, modern.)In school she was chosen to perform for the ACDFA program, where she was awarded a summer to dance with the Iowa Ballet Company.
After graduating (BFA) she was picked to dance for Disneyworld( a 7 hour audition), as a World Dancer for Epcot. She quickly became a swing for the other park shows, Diamond Horseshoe, and Pleasure Island (where she met her friend Cris Judd). During her 3 years at Disney, she also became a cheerleader for the NBA Orlando Magic, and cheered thru the Finals, along side of Shaq. She was awarded the gold medal, from the Spirit association for NBA cheerleaders. After Orlando, she moved to Atlantic City, danced for Merv Griffin, and then moved to LA, dancing for Disneyland, (as Jasmine) and premiering in the Hunchback movie. When faced with the decision to go to Tokyo for Disney, she chose to audition for EFX, at the MGM with David Cassidy, and got the job, which was one of her favorites. She worked at MGM for years, left for other shows and was the swing (in between babies) with Tommy Tune , then finished it out with Rick Springfield.
She now works as a model, dancer, singer for various shows, and does a little Liza now and then.. Miss Kim has ALWAYS loved teaching, and has been doing it in between all the wonderful opportunites life has brought her. She started at age 12, and believes in hands on training, knowing every child, every parent, and enjoying every hug... from littles to bigs. Her numbers have won many awards, as well as high point, best lyrical and tap, best choreography, most original, and best duo. Her soloists have placed in the top 10 and her pageant children have titles from all over the state. She prides herself on believing, any child can dance, and is willing to go the extra step to make everyone feel special. Her 3 beautiful children have the love for dance, and are experiencing first hand what it is to have a passion.
Miss Kim wants to expose all of her students to every aspect of performing, and hopefully someday, sit in the front row of a show and know she had something to do with cultivating the seed to perform, in a child. She shares most her time with her 3 kids Santana, Diego, and Mateo, and her soulmate, Bruce, whom is the lead singer of the Temptation s(yep, those ones, My Girl)...Miss Kim loves to garden, and craft. She loves Broadway, Christina Aguilera, and on sundays, is a nut for football, GO STEELERS...
Miss Kim is a wonderful asset to Center Stage! Please join us in welcoming her to the CSDA family!
